The Area

Things to do in the area

Lower Town, Fishguard

Lower Town, Fishguard. So beautiful and so close to the campsite.

Blue Lagoon

The beautiful Blue Lagoon located near St David’s is just another Welsh gem which is a must see for anyone visiting Pembrokeshire. And guess what? It’s not too far from our beautiful little campsite.

Goodwick Beach

Goodwick beach. This place is a little gem and not far from the campsite. It has a cafe, sea life centre, shop, playground and a lovely little beach. Perfect.

Strumble Head

Do you want to know one of the best places in the UK for dolphin spotting? Strumble Head - North Pembrokeshire. It’s coastal vantage point makes it the perfect spot to see passing seals, whales and dolphins; or just watch the birdlife on the wildflower-covered clifftops.

This lighthouse-topped headland is situated at the north-west tip of the Pen Caer peninsula, just west of Fishguard. The lighthouse was built in 1908 to protect the ships navigating the treacherous Irish Sea - this stretch of coast has a long history of taking vessels in the dangerous waters with over 60 being lost during the 1800’s.

Just near the lighthouse, the coast path passes a brick shelter which was built as a Second World War observation post. In the 1980s it was due to be demolished in a programme of removing what were regarded as wartime eyesores. However it was reprieved because birdwatchers were using it as a hide - and is now the perfect shelter from which to watch the sea and any wildlife that might be passing in it!

It is an increasingly popular spot for those that consider themselves “Strumblers”. In the spring and summer months, the headlands are covered in a blanket of flowers - bright yellow gorse; vivid bluebells and pink heather; making it the perfect time to visit. Also amazing sunsets too.

JT Abergwaun Hotel

One of our absolute favourite eateries, JT Abergwaun Hotel. This is higher end dining at its best for competitive prices. Run by Daniel and Lois, they have worked extremely hard to create this beautiful restaurant and hotel with stylish, quaint decoration.

Daniel has recently won “Best Pub Chef” competition and deservedly so. The menu showcases amazing, seasonal produce.

They also have an amazing cocktail menu and has “happy hour” on cocktails which is a great idea if you want to try.

St Nons Bay, St David's

St Nons Bay in St David’s. Yet another Pembrokeshire delight. Look at the turquoise blue water - you could swear it was somewhere in the Mediterranean. Nope, but not so far from the campsite.

Cwm yr Eglwys

Stunning Cwm yr Eglwys. Just a few miles from the campsite.

Nourish Bakery, Fishguard and Goodwick, Pembrokeshire.

Something to replace our cruffins for a while as it’s high time to take advantage of the summer fruit season! Peach and meadowsweet danish featuring juicy organic peaches from @candmorganics and our homemade syrup from locally foraged meadowsweet, as well as a good dollop of panela sugar custard. Summertime!

Scolton Manor

So much going on at Scolton Manor over the Summer. I took my little boy recently and we had fun. A great budget friendly option for the family.

Cresswell’s Cafe

Cresswell’s Cafe. This family run cafe offers a very warm welcome with great home cooked food at good prices. They also offer a delicious Sunday lunch carvery with homemade desserts. You cannot miss Cresswell’s as their beautiful flowers always make it look so welcoming and vibrant.

Mannings Grocers

So the next eatery we would like to recommend in Fishguard is Mannings Grocers. This is a quaint, beautifully decorated cafe and grocers with a beautiful back garden and bar offering extra external seating. Mannings Grocers offers delicious food from hot sandwiches, salads, Oggie’s, quiche and scrummy homemade cakes and desserts. You can also buy beautiful organic fruit and veg and other local produce. In the Summer months they have pizza and music nights. A little gem.

The Royal Oak

So, when people arrive at the campsite - they are usually tired and hungry. Royal Oak on the square in Fishguard is very popular. This pub initially looks small on the outside, but trust us, it’s like a tardis! It is a traditional, country pub steeped with history about the invasion. It serves honest pub grub. Or if you just wanted a tea or coffee - no problem. They have a stunning pub garden with great vibes for all in the Summer. Music festivals, quiz nights, curry nights are also popular. So, pop in and check it out.

Kayak King

So we just wanted to give a mention to a wonderful local business offering kayak tours from Lower Town, Fishguard. Kayak King offers informative, adventurous, fun kayaking tours for all the family. We have booked a few people in on their holidays in Pembrokeshire and we’ve done it myself with our family. I have an 19, 15 and 7 year old and they all thoroughly enjoyed it.
